| Job Title: Funeral Assistant and Madrassa Teacher |
| Description |
| Hendon Mosque and Islamic Centre (HMIC) provides worshiping, social, educational and recreational activities that are sensitive to the cultural needs of Muslims in North West London. Within this, HMIC operates an Islamic funeral service and daily Madrassa (Qur’anic supplementary school). The Madrassa is attended by around 300 pupils.
HMIC now require a specialist worker who will teach in the Madrassa, perform all the funeral rites of the Sunni Islamic faith and provide for leading congregational prayer.
Main Responsibilities include:
Funeral
• Performing all the funeral rituals for deceased
• Driving deceased from hospitals, their home the mosque, and the cemetery as instructed by the Funeral Director
• Work without constant supervision and have the direction and the drive to ensure that all ritual rites and instructions are completed
Madrassa
• Teach the Holy Qur’an and Islamic Studies to class(es) as instructed by the Madrassa Principal and according to the curriculum policy of HMIC
• Prepare reports for the Principal
• Attend parent meetings and annual celebration events
Lead Congregational Prayer:
• In the absence of the Imam, lead the congregational prayer e.g. during holidays
Knowledge/Skills and Experience:
This demanding and challenging position requires an individual who has
• Excellent proficiency in reciting the Holy Qur’an
• Good command of English language and excellent communication skills (having to deal with the families of the bereaved)
• Experience of performing all the funeral rites according to Sunni Islamic faith
• Experience in working in Madrassa
• Experience in teaching the Holy Qur’an and Islamic studies
• Clean driving licence for the last 3 years
You will have demonstrable capability of working with young people and being able to have a positive rapport with them as well as being a role model.
The ability to work on your own initiative and prioritise work is essential, as is the ability to positively contribute to the working team environment which exists within the organisation. This position requires an individual who is able to take a pro-active approach to their work in conjunction with the ability to operate effectively and calmly when working under pressure.
Due to the nature and responsibilities of the funeral work, the position requires someone with a flexible working approach as some unsociable hours of work will be required.
